As announced by MOF, for Jan 2012, total lottery sales recorded a growth of approximately3% YOY to approximately RMB 16.46 billion (Jan 2011: approximately RMB 16.01 billion). Please refer to the attachment for breakdown.

The lottery sales data reveals:

I.         WELFARE LOTTERY

For Jan 2012, Welfare Lottery accounted for approximately60.09% (approximately RMB 9.89 billion) of total lottery sales for the month, up approximately6% YOY. Lotto games accounted for approximately73% of total welfare lottery sales,Instant Scratch Cardsapproximately 13.45% and VLTapproximately13.55%, 

a. Welfare Lotto

For Jan 2012, Welfare Lotto sales were approximately RMB 7.22 billion, up approximately6% YOY.

b. Welfare Instant Scratch Cards

For Jan 2012, Welfare Instant Scratch Cards sales wereapproximately RMB 1.33 billion, up approximately7% YOY.

c. Video Lottery

For Jan 2012, VLT sales reached approximately RMB 1.34, up approximately 3% YOY.

II.        SPORTS LOTTERY

For Jan 2012, Sports Lottery accounted for approximately39.91% (approximately RMB 6.57 billion) of total lottery sales for the month. Lotto accounted for approximately60.88% of total Sports Lottery sales, Instant Scratch Cards approximately17.35%, and Single Match Game approximately 21.77%.

a. Sports Lotto

For Jan 2012, Sports Lotto sales were approximately RMB 4 billion, up approximately13% YOY.

b. Sports Instant Scratch Cards

For Jan 2012, Sports Instant Scratch Cards sales were approximately RMB 1.14 billion, downapproximately13% YOY.

c. Single Match Game

For Jan 2012, Sports Single Match Game Sales wereapproximately RMB 1.43 billion, downapproximately 23% YOY.  

Please note the nation’s lottery market was closed for the Chinese New Year Holidays from 22th to 28th January 2012 inclusive. Growth in sales of certain lottery games have slowed while others have dropped in this particular month.
